Knowledge Seeker Catching Butterflies


A Linocut by John D. Gall experimenting with using multi colles/collages (all printed from the plate). A love of working with paper urged Seeker John is try this.

Hey Seeker John, I'd be interested in learning more about this multicolle technique. Do you have any technical information or pictures of the process?

Hi Clyde...I'm primarily an etcher and do a lot of chine colle. I recently met artist, Sean Caulfield, at UNC that used this different technique. He used his main plate or another plate to print selected images. He then cut them out and colled them on to his "Main" printed image one at a time and NOT with a press. I jokingly said he was "cheating" but honestly admired the wonderful results and decided to try it. I do think intaglio would be a better technique to use this with but must admit lino looks cool.

I forgot to mention to you that I do a lot of multi colle with intaglio where everything is done on a press in one pass. I wrote a little article about it if you are interested:
